The hotel still stands in the same spot. The back half of it has been torn down but the main building still remains. It is still very vacant though

It's water damage. This hotel was never a victim of a fire. It was a victim of a lot of homeless people though. I live about 12 minutes from it. In its hayday it was a spectacular hotel. Now it is just an eyesore waiting for someone to do something with it.

i live in wilkes barre and the hotel sterling was the place to have a wedding. everything was top rate from the china used to how well the waitstaff was dressed. it is still sitting there abandoned. many people would love to see it restored. rumor has it that there was a fantastic penthouse apartment that an older woman lived in for years. i'm not sure if it was in the building that was demolished.

I've walked past this building almost everyday for the past 5 years and I never knew that it was, or could be so beautiful inside.

When i was in college in the mid 60's the college rented the top 4floors of the older part of the Sterling for upperclassmen . My room was on the 5th floor corner shown in this photo and the fire escape was right outside our PRIVATE bathroom . Yep we has a fireplace and mantle in the huge room . It had 4 windows , 2 overlooking the river 2 overlooking Market ST . We had a huge private tiled bathroom and weekly maid service .

Living in the hotel as collegians we often were able to participate in large conference events held there and get some free stuff .

The Sterling was awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
