For having been "officially" abandoned for more than a decade now, this place is in pretty good shape. It still looks pretty clean to me, not too much deterioration. I find that surprising.
i believe they are home made but they must've shared specs with other institutions b/c i've seen them in other places. one basement storage room had a couple of these chairs in a room full of artificial limbs and polio braces!
that chair reminds me of the home made chairs at another state institution for helpless children that i frequent.
no, but the locals do certainly worse; before about 2 years ago security there was nil and one of my friends actually got closed in one of those drawers when she and her friends decided to go screwing around there
The school is an hour across the bay from me, theres a "virtual museum" as its called with loads on this place out in cyberspace, you can probably find by google...
Awesome pics Motts, i was wondering when you'd do this place.

Great photos.
They really brought me back to probably a helpful place in its time, although these photos make it look very scary now.
What a fantastic shot! How did you get that angle Mr. Motts? Looks like you were on a step ladder or something.
What lighting! How gorgous! Did you just stumble across it like this or did you wait for the lighting to be perfect?
That mold does not look healthy. It sure does create a beautiful contrast though.
What kind of material is that on the wall? Some sort of cloth?
Was there anything inside?

I love this picture. It looks like some one just up and left it.

The dirt and rub marks tell of use without cleaning or someone confined to the chair a long time. Sad and creepy at the same time. A great picture that, for me, captured a bit of the life someone experienced there.
