Looks like a jewel about to cave in on itself (if you get what I'm saying lol)

Bending, unclear, uncertain yet striking image.
Okay...Back up sloooowly, and very, very gently!

The tunnels were a popular hang out spot . Back in the 80's we would get ripped in the woods then walk through the tunnels-- really creepy. We also found the Nike missle location at the peak of the mountain, we didn't know what it was until our science teacher at Nanuet HS had told us. Too many cops would patrol the roads around that area- so we stopped going there. We too would run into a few hobos that lived in the woods.

We partied at the tunnels quite alot back in the day ( early 80's). Those were fun times then! Now that I'm older I wish I was more into the history of what the tunnels were for. Im glad you posted the pictures as they have brought back alot of memories and will at least preserve some history of the place!

Yup, reminds me of myself and every other kid who went to camp of some sort in Atwood Park...goofing around checking out the remains of the Camp Grant bunkers shrouded in the trees.

It might be mistaken for a sidewalk through the trees-but it's no ordinary sidewalk!!

There's city parkland in the woods in the area of our airport. (south end) The park district runs week-long overnight camp sessions in the summer and I got to go for a few days on a grade school mini camp. Anyhoo, the park gets closed every so often for ammo sweeps-the place used to be our WWII training camp. On the night hikes, we got to go over to the old bunkers back in the trees. (another cool thing-a geology walk along the river bluffs to find rocks with fossils, which I did.)

Naturally, the woods have grown up and grabbed the place.
This would be fabulous wallpaper. Great photos Mr. Motts.
I slept in the building at the end of that tunnel. (35 years ago) Still get the willies thinking about it! We used to walk thru them too. Good times!

In my youth all my friends and I would go up there for a few days...camp where we could...But on another note-we found beds, complete with dressers in some of those old concrete structures...we thought we were being watched on more than a few occasions...back then about thirty years ago there was not too much of a homeless problem in Rockland..we thought they were criminals from nearby NYC...people did LIVE there...
