It should be specified that this place is in NORTH Jersey. I'm from South Jersey. There ~is~ a difference.

I took this picture into photoshop, to change the hue on the leaves, to get a positive I D on them. Sure looks like swamp sumac to me. They grow everywhere around here. They grow very quickly and one plant will send up several 'sucker shoots' so you have a whole forest of them in a few years.
They do have an odor when cut down or pruned.
I've never heard of them being referred to as locust trees (I should go into Google and look all this up, but time forbids this right now) Possibly another plant that is known by different names in different parts of the world.

All sumac trees are shallow rooted, and knock down real easy. I rid the trail of the poisonous variety simply by giving them a karate chop with my foot.
Erm, I hate to burst your bubble, Scott, but those aren't Sumac Trees, they're Locust or Honey Locusst trees. I must agree with you, however, they are nothing but weeds that grow where nothing else will. And they stink, too
Well, After awhile, they do sorta get etched in, I believe. So, No I don't find it odd. I do find it cool, though.

The guy with the patch on his eye is really a walking god hero, but the other one looks like a supernatural wierdo

Sumac trees are amazing. They grow in places no other living thing could. They seem to thrive on a diet of dog urine and cigarette butts.

Yep, the graffiti is about the only thing that makes it non-romantic, but am sure me and 'er could ignore that after our beers and weed! ;-)

Would be rather romantic. Too bad there's so much "art".

Cool the way the trees grew on either side of the entrance--they look like a natural arch for the athletes to walk through on their way out to the field.
