The lighting in your photos is so hauntingly beautiful! Is that moss growing on the floor in this pic? Great shots! I'm seeing more of the Norwich Hospital through your photos than I EVER saw of it when I grew up just up the street from it!
You're close. It's "qui transtulit sustinet," meaning, "He who transplanted still sustains." It's the Connecticut state motto.
That fireplace is amazing! I grew up just up the road apiece from the Norwich Hospital, but the only building I've ever been in is the Administration Building. My father worked at the Norwich Hospital for years as a psychiatric aide. Fascinating photos!
I dont get it....criminal... mentally ill???? How can u be both? Then again the bars are on the OUTSIDE of the window....Did they have tasers back then?
kayy.so i deff do think the state hospital is haunted cause my moms friend grew up in their as a ward of the state. shes not crazy! but she tld me house abusive that they were to people. i may be young and your probably like whats this little girl know..well actually im obsessed with the state hospital. and one day im gonna go their _X promise your that. well if you dont think this place is haunted then your a freakin idiot cause i mean they used to hang dead people on meat hooks. but its not haunted rightt. haha sikee.
Now, Motts, I actually have a couple questions about your exploration through NSH. I live right by it, and have looked at it practically since I was born. Would you consider it pretty easy to get into? I know you can't give your ways getting into them, but I'm wonderinng about that.
I've also heard rumors that there is still an old electric chair in there, is it true? I'm sure you would have taken a picture of it, but I'm just wondering?
Also (last one, I promise, for now) how bad is thte rotting? Did you almost fall through any places? Is it pretty safe?
I lived in Ledyard growing up and remember driving past this many times. I still live in the general area. The Utopia deal fell through about a year ago. It turns out that Utopia is into some shady dealings and they missed some finacial deadlines. So Preston told them that the deal was off. I still love to drive past these building and I wish that I could just walk the grounds to get a better look at them. I hope you have the chance to visit again and take more pictures.
awesome shot, but sad too. I also realize that it may look sad to us, but at one time it meant someone's safety.Motts again thank you for sharing your pictures
i love the fireplace, but I love all fireplaces. I live in Florida, so no need for one really. I find them really beautiful and sometimes makes rooms stand out
