My granparents have walked through those tunnels... They told me that they heard door's slaming and scream's... BUT there was noone there....... CREEPY
Woe... hot_pink_rox595 that is amazing that you have a family member that actually was a paitent here.... Wow... I would love to know what it was like to stay there..... I would love to hear the stories she probaly has... Your aunt is part of history!!!! Can you believe that?? That is truly amazing...
This is creepy!!!! Can you believe that it was slanted down like dat? Well anyway i wish they(walmart) didn't tear such history down... Yeah it was just an abonded buliding BUT it was history... So many people grew up around it and noone ever really knew what was inside there.... Such a shame.... I think there are spirits traped here....
I've been to the hospital before with my grandfather... I actually know the owner of the property... Ralph Stroyne.... Nice guy... It's a shame that FUCKING WALMART had to FUCKING tear down history!!!!!
Perhaps this is a very ominous observation on my part but I can't help but speculate what these tunnels were used for. I have found that most of the time, tunnels such as these were used for the transport of bodies so that the other patients would not see the dead. Regardless of their use, they give off a very "dead feeling" to me. Sad.
I had a friend who was committed to dixmont back in 1966. she was only there for a short time. i really dont remember the building that much, but it really had to live up to the specs. this site is great, cause i really love the history of an old building.
Motts, I know this is a bit late, but I hope you leave things as they are. I am a newcomer so to speak but keep coming back and back. I like reading the comments. If any editing is done, maybe the one or two word comments but certainly leave the lengthy comments, I've learned so much by reading them as far as the history of mental health. And I agree with the other writer that said there are other sites that are similar, but none such as good.
I agree with BustedTresspasser - it is a shame they didn't put the effort and money into restoring these buildings into apartments or affordable living places. Although I may feel a bit spooked living in a place that was once a hospital or asylum, but eventually I think I would. After all, every apartment or house I have lived in had someone die and two have enen been "haunted". It's all good.
