They still use electroshock here. Lateral or Bi-Lateral. On some dementia patients those who are more violent then others recieve it. They get sent to The Danville State Hospital. They come back and they're fine for a while then sometime later on they get it again.

I think we can safely say that the case has been opened back up. :-)

You know. That is the funny thing about Mental Ilness.
It like many other diseases has no boundaries by race, creed, gender, religion.

However, cases like this are not common. They are maybe 1 in a million.
I would have to defer to Lynne on the actual fact of the matter.

I have seen cases that mental patients
can have mental babies or childern that will grow up just like the retarded parent.
I have seen a case personally. The child
would claw its face and rip its hair out or
claw at other childern or adult and they will scream if someone tries to help the
child. Even at infancy a newborn had to have mitts when it kept tearing its skin and eyes on purpose. This was not a normal newborn infant. It is still that way.
It will not let you make eye contact.
It was due to the parents who were
mentally retarded. The doctors saw it in her genes. Scary but true. Case closed.

i've had nitemares that looked just like this. holy crap.

I got in to the rotunda. I nearly fell throught to the basement. but what was on the otherside was awesome.

I do not think a child that young would be considered insane. I was wondering if maybe some of the mothers were aloud to take care of thier children if they were deamed fit to do so even if not fit to leave the institution? Some thing like how mothers are often aloud to raise thier children even though they are imprisoned.

Motts, Have you ever herd of a school out here in western Mass called the Belchertown State School??? It has been empty for about 12+ years its almost 100 years old and has many buildings on the 8oo+acre campus... you may wanna check it out. I think it would make a wonderful addition to your beautiful pictures

Could it be possable that the hospital had a day care for employee's or possably one for outpatient care?? I dont know if they did outpatient but.. if there were tricycles and this carriage. My guess would be daycare.

I post at the old Worcester Hospital with my work and have always stared at the buildings in nothing but awe at the beauty. Looking at this picture give's me a new appreciation for its beauty. Its a sad thing that such buildings are going to waste . It is a relief to see that they are still in ok shape on the in side. Thank you for taking your wonderful pictures.
