Rohan is on the right track here, as Bannerman bought tons of weaponry and stored it on the island here, including equipment from the U.S. Civil War, Span-Am War, etc. I once saw an incredible video of a guy who worked one summer in the late '50's-early '60's on this island; his job was to deactivate and dispoe of all the ancient (and highly dangerous) explosive ordnance stored there.

Ive stood in this very spot, ive got some really good shots of the bannerman's, i rowed there from the cornwall side (not recemended)
