Autoclaves are also used (and in most countries required by law) by proffesional piercers. Both the instruments and "jewlery" have to go through their treatment before being used on a person and the machine itself has to be checked monthly at a hospital to ensure it's function and lack of bacteria.

(Amazing photos, btw!)

As a young child in the early 1960's, while visiting a neighbor who was in the hospital, I clearly remember seeing two similar machines lined up at the end of a corridor ... the sight scared me then and still does today. Superb picture.

Yeah, it's beautiful and everything. I just also think it lends itself to images of rusty nails and frantic trips to the hospital.

Kudos mott. This is the neatest pic I've seen yet on your site. Been stuck in this site for two days now, hehe.
These things are known for crushing and ripping off limbs. They are extremely powerful and I have been both fascinated and terrified of them since I read Stephen King's "The Mangler" when I was youth.
not bad but, I want to see the original prototype steam ironer made my the german inventor, Mangle or atleast one like Stephen King saw that took off a man's forearms.

I learned an interesting thing in color theory. Apparently, that institutional green color does have a calming affect, but I actually does not promote well-ness. A light blue might have been a better alternative...

Just to throw in: most soap is made out of some kind of fatty acid (henceforth called "fat") mixed with lye and scents. So saying that there is fat in the jar is an understatement... Given time most soaps will decompose back into their components, just like a vinaigrette will only slower.

God, how personal. Stickers, hand written notes, it brings the realism to the surface. A real human being was once in that device, possibly days on end. I am in awe of all of it.
