Sunlight was considered very important in the treatment of many diseases, especially rickets (a disease resulting from a lack of vitamin D or calcium). Here, several children receive carbon arc and ultraviolet light treatments. The risk of prolonged ultraviolet light exposure as a cause of skin cancer was not appreciated in that era

Just imagine the buffet you could serve with these!! With just a few adjustments they could keep food warm or cold for hours, and the well placed doors and windows so you can keep an eye on thing. Then when it's time to serve you just roll out the table!

No problem! That article is from 1938, btw - so it might be the first foray into the frame that was later developed and used in hospitals.

Swedish-American Hospital in Rockford,IL is searching for an Iron Lung. They are hoping to find one to exhibit in a proposed museum they plan to build for their Centenial Celebration in 2011. Pleae, contact them if one is available.I was born in 1946 and remember the fear of Polio as a child. One of my memories is my picture in local newspaper getting my Polio Vaccine at school.Thank you and God bless,

I doubt I've ever seen an Operating Theatre that didn't have some small stains on the floor. Stuff like Betadeine is a real mofo to clean all the way off. Leaves small orange/yellow stains.
Eded up in one of those, well a newer one anyway when I broke my leg pretty badly. Uncomfortable, yes, torture, definitely not.

I often come back to this photo trying to figure it out. No luck.
"Welcome to the Cunnilingorium, I'm you're hostess, Delores."
"Yes, I had the 7:30 reservation with Mulva."
"Of course. Right this way, Mr. Hunt."
given the nature of the equipment. those pipes strewn about take on a perverse significance. my question: did the pipes come pre-strewn, or did you arrange them there? though i must admit, if i were you i would not answer and let it remain a mystery.
