Hi J.R. It's happened because people cared and got involved in saving what remained.
I believe that Kimco, who is the 3rd owner of this property now, had pretty much bought it for the mall strip and other stores that developed over the years after it was sold the first time.
They weren't into amusement parks. (I'm sure especially one that had been uncared for for years.)
And I give Kimco ALOT of credit to letting what remains be saved.
They didn't have to.
They could have just let it rot, since it wasn't anything that they were ever going to use.
But, they understood there was emotional and historic attachment to it, and gave Clark's Elioak Farm permission to take what they could at the farm's cost.
Had they not allowed THAT to happen, nothing from this creative children's nursery rhyme and fairytale park would have ever been saved. : )
Another good website: www.amusementparksnostalgia.com. Shows lots of pictures of abandoned parks with coasters and everything just sitting there rusting or rotting away. Just don't understand that.
If everyone would just understand that everyone has their "OWN" distinct personality and that's why not everyone agrees on any subject; I think we would be less defensive. : ) I do have to agree with J.R., though.
ok, if you try to write something in german, please do it correctly:
HÄNSEL UND GRETEL.
greetings from Germany, felix weber-schattwaldt
great pics, anyway!
I'll get defensive whenever I damn well please, no matter who says something I disagree with undefinedsome of the comments I don't bother with because they're a few years old and the original commentor probably won't be reading it or caring).
Can you prove that art isn't art when it destroys something else? With real facts and evidence?
no need to get all defensive, god damn. I'm not the only one who said that most graffiti is trash. in fact, I'm the one who put it more lightly, so thats kinda not fair of you to explode on me.
and if you must know, I am in my 5th year of art classes, thank you very much, and I'm NOT shooting down any type of "art" form here, I am stating a true fact that art isnt truly art when it has destroyed something else that could already be classified as art.
And I really hate people who somehow think they've been given divine authority to decide who is or isn't an artist, and that anything they don't find aesthetically pleasing isn't art. Thinking you can put such concrete boundaries around what an artist is, is really just ignorance.
That mural was done by an ARTIST local to Portland and Heidelberg, he graduated not too long ago from a prestigious art school undefinedI love saying that, since I go there now). He uses his graffiti talent to organize workshops for kids at the local schools and community centers.
That's kind of funny...sounds to me like he's an ARTIST and he's standing up for what he believes in.
that is by far the ugliest graffiti I've ever seen.
I really hate certain graffiti "artists". see, my friend graffitis stuff all the time and he's always saying it's because he's standing up for what he believes, so I'm always saying ok whatever it's not the graffiti that bothers me its the location. graffiti on walls never really bothers me but when its in places that are already covered by art or that portray something like this, something like childhood innocence, then I want to watch the person who did it choke and die on their own ignorance. if you're gonna tag or graffiti or whatever, do it someplace where you arent ruining childhood memories, art, or something of significance, for god's sake.
