I was one of the lighting "guys" at the Pines. I was also one of the lifeguards at the indoor pool - early 80's. Was offered the additional part-time job when the regular guy screwed up with a major headliner act - he was drunk or high and the spotlight was everywhere except on the singer.

I guess I was young and naive when I worked there from the fall of 1980 to around Dec of 1981. While I did learn alot about life in general, I never realized the extent of the "fringe benefits" enjoyed by some of the staff. On a side note - this looks like the center room of possibly the 3rd or 2nd floor in the Ritz. I spent a few months living in the center room on the 3rd floor. While there wasn't ice in the toilet bowl, I do remember using a blow dryer for heat in the winter, when the heating system broke down (not an unusual occurrence either!!)

If it was stolen and not taken down by the owners, I'd be willing to bet it was their own hired security. Who else would have the opportunity to take something so large & hard to get to?

Sadly, It's all too true Lynne. I was there. There was an aging old housewife willing to sleep with every bellhop or waiter that was willing to do the job. A little cocaine didn't hurt their chances any either.

Its the truth, not twisted logic, abandoned buildings get torn down. So therefore taking items from them is not wrong

"Why not take stuff? After all, it's only going to get torn down and thrown out someday..."

By that same logic anyone could come into YOUR house and take YOUR shit. After all, it's just going to get torn down and tossed out eventually anyway, right?

Stealing is stealing, people, and don't try to justify your actions with twisted logic.

LMAO!! "Jack Torrance! Great moniker!

Actually, after reading all of the references to the original "The Shining" movie, I was a little sad to see only one reference to the naked young/old lady in the bathtub scene. That scene always gives me the creeps, and this photo gave me the exact same feeling.
