I almost fell through a floor in one area, The cieling over the night club is barely holding together. The fire in one building hasn't helped. It hsa been exposed to the elements with no maint. for just about 10 years. the cieiling over the kitchen has caved in.

There are many abandoned buildings around Xi'an, Shaanxi that we used to hold live-fire exercises and hostage rescue situations, I came upon this picture again and it reminded me of a building we used not too long ago. Our unit and two PLA Counter Terrorism Special Forces fire teams entered in an exercise to flush out imaginary snipers. These exercises are held in preparation for the Beijing Olympics 2008.
We ran from room to room with QBZ-95 bullpup rifles and fired at popup targets that raised into the air. It was sheer adrenaline, the jaw-cracking adrenaline of combat, live ammunition was used so it was just like World War II Anti-Japanese guerilla fighting in the mountains.
One of the rooms looked almost just like this, and my unit kicked in the door, in a mock hostage rescue attempt in case of a Munich style standoff that happened in 1972, and for almost a hour, we lie right outside, not moving, not uttering a sound. The sheer excitement of a soldier's life.
Reading all these comments from all of the people that lived some of the best memories at the Pines we should try and have a reunion of sorts..what a true riot that would be..it could be done with the internet..I'm for helping organize it if you are truly interested please e-mail me at :Doreen4remax@aol.com......Thanks..
Speedy Garfin...if you should come back to this site and look at the Wedgewood Room carpeting once again...please e-mail me - I was that crazy blonde that would always request that you do "Along Came Jones"...what you did with that Clarinet..well we do have our memories...e-mail me at Doreen4remax@aol.com ...If Kutchers is still around in the summer of "07" I will come up there with my hisbamd and my children just to see you and enjoy your "Along Came Jones"... You were and still are the best!!!!

Doreen :)
Lee, Who was your dad? My family stayed at the Pines from 1959 - 1976 every summer so maybe I knew him..if you see this post please e-mail me back at Doreen4remax@aol.com. I would really appreciate it...at least the Pines stays alive in our memories for those that lived it.. Thanks, Doreen :)
Kippi: You go girl! We need to provide the people that come to this site with the world that we lived in at the Pines all those years ago..the place may be in ruins to some degree but no one including Father Time can take our memories away from us...those will be with us forever and go to our grave (some of those memories anyway) Love you, Doreen :)
Were you up there to see it in ruins? If you have any uodated photos - please send them to me at Doreen4remax@aol.com Thank you Richard.
Richard - were you ever at the Pines? I know it looks like it is beyond restoration, however nothing is impossible..it amazes me that in just 8 short years it could turn to this...I'm planning a trip up there to hopefully see it for myself...if you grew up there every summer like I did it just does not seem possible and won't for me until I see it for real... e-mail me at Doreen4remax@aol.com and thank you for a response....Doreen :)
This pic is pretty recent and it shows it as still being there

The borscht belt resorts closed for many reasons, Failure to upgrade, Over zealous upgrades, The owners descendents not wanting to continue in the buisness. Jewish resorts fading away as the cultures blended and old predjudices died out. Cheaper vacations farther away, The list goes on and on

Doreen, having explored this place, I think it is beyond restoration.

My father played in the show band for many years. I met all the acts as a kid. I remember hanging backstage. What a shame for ALL the hotels.

There was no "Green Room" There were 3 dressing rooms. One for the Emcee, One for the band and one for the acts. There were also 3 bathrooms. I spent my entire adolescent life backstage at the Pines, as my dad was Johnny Greco, the Emcee for most of the 60's, 70's and 80's until his death in 1990. I'll be glad to answer any questions about the Persian Room or the Skating Rink or anything else about this wonderful, but forgotten showplace.
