Bucky is the name of the tray in the X-Ray table that holds an X-Ray cassette. A cassette is the device that holds the film when it is not in the dark room. The Bucky tray is located under the patient and used to image thicker body parts. Hands and feet are positioned directly on top of the cassette. Digital x-ray has no film and hence, no Bucky tray.
I was an X-Ray Tech for 30+ years. This is the tube for a dental x-ray. It is only radioactive when it is plugged in and the tech pushes the button. This is only for a fraction of a second. Radiation therapy machines (for treating cancer) are the machines that are radioactive whenever the doors to the chamber holding the isotope are open. Older machines needed more radiation to produce an image than more modern x-ray machines do. Exams like mammograms use so little radiation today that no lead is necessary in the walls or doors. BTW... we labeled all of our Bic pens with: "Radioactive Pen = Return to X-Ray".

Ah another classic fitting pic to end a most classic gallery ever. Motts dude, you really know how to get the right snap to end your galleries at times. The symbolism (intended or not) is absolutely perfect. Nice going and keep snapping away!
Holy Mighty Ding Dongs of Ultimate Doom!!! I would absolutely LOVE to have that panel!!! I would be pushing buttons on that thing, turning the dials, everything all day long! Would be excellent to be used in a low budget Sci-Fi or horror classic!!! Oooo Motts you made my day man!
Yes, quite strange, but then again, over in Cleburne, TX there is a really good hamburger stand right next to what used to be the Johnson County Jail, then Youth Services (AKA Juvenile Hall or something like that), now its Johnson County Emergency Operations and the Johnson County Morgue. Not sure if its the County Morgue facility or the Medical Examiner's Office.

I know in Brevard County, FL they are in the same facility (used to do janitorial off and on there), and in Alachua County they are separate. I think it is the Morgue facility though. So yeah, hamburger stand (and a damn good one I must say) next to the morgue.
Nice and very interesting shot. The tube thingy in the foreground (out of focus [slightly]) used for washing (I guess) the cadavers after autopsy is completed looks a bit like a microphone. Now, I would not put my mouth on that thing, even if someone dared me and claimed to pay me in platinum or as me if I would do it for a Klondike Bar
Nice shot Motts. This time this looks to be ultramodern as in "just used" or something along those lines. Very nicely done.
Extremely sterile yet extremely eerie and fascinating at precisely the exact same time. Really cool. Of course, I wonder who would accept a bet to lie down on one of those things for a snap? I certainly wouldn't do it for all the gold in Ft. Knox, a quarter of a trillion greenbacks, or a Klondike Bar. But I am sure there is always someone willing to...like down...for a snap. Or a slice.
That is quite a cool snap. There are MUCH bigger autoclaves than this one. ALCON Labs (owned by Nestle since 1974 or so) has a GIANT one that is not used in its Ft. Warth, TX location. Pretty cool looking too. And ominous. In fact that whole place made me nervous. Worked as a temp there once...

Also looks (kinda) like a nuclear bunker access door or airlock compartment door as well. Still, Motts, you rock on these snaps man!
Now that wiould be most excellent to mess around with. Knobs, switches, buttons... Heheh!!! Thankfully no power but I would not have a care in the world. Childish, maybe, but I could care less.

And yes, I have always wondered about the Bucky 1 and Bucky 2. Seen them on another x-ray system in a doctor's office. Good info to know though... Would have thought them to be maybe tubes or something like target apparatii in the tubes or something.
Looks to me like a vault door or a airlock door of some kind... Would be messing with that thing for a long time... LOL... Nice shot motts
I would be playing with that thing... Really cool snapshot though. And yes, it would be more for fascination than actually playing per se.

And yes, X-Rays can be radioactive. Albeit as far as a radioactive source involved, no. There isn't. But it still can be radioactive. I remember when my brother hurt his ankle and we had to get x-rays. In the hallway where the x-ray room was, there was a simple folding footstool sitting there. In black marker it actually read: "RADIOACTIVE. DO NOT STEAL." Someitmes I laugh when I think about it...
Very interesting shot here. Glad you really resisted the temptation to write something asinine or stupid with chalk on that board. Granted, I would probably succumb to that temptation (if I had some chalk) which is sad, I know... But still a very good shot.
