i am a college student wrapping up my final year of school and making a short documentary on the history of Fernald for a project. If there are any
former employees (or even residents on here) on here who would be willing to share any stories or information about Fernald I would me most grateful.
Just how did/does JMack know that no one came to visit? Is that the infamous talking old wheel chair? There is plenty of pathos in real life to go around without resortng to imagination.

I think this picture was put there to show them they where still free even though they where locked up and treated like crap I think this building should be left as is cause even if u cant see them doesnt mean no one lives there still and doing anything to this building would be rude and an insalt to thoes spirets still there
Ya looks like somthing the Patients wanting to get away made so they tie them selfs to it and say 123 go go go xD jk but for real i think some idiot took it there and left it to just scare some people or somthing
what an amazing place! i'm trying to get down there to photograph but i think security is gonna be tight because of "ghost hunters" a couple weeks ago. i don't believe in that stuff but the show is interesting but they sure make it difficult to explore after the fact...
Can you enter legaly? I am thinking about taking a ride up and touring. Im interested to see how the inmates lived. Paranormal activity is also an attention grabber for me.
This probably wasn't so horrible when it was well-lit. Maybe the staff was trying to make a "sunny" place for children to play when they could not go outside, either due to weather or disability?
Motts, I just came across this website a couple of days ago and I cannot stop looking! Your pictures are beautiful: excellent composition, colors, framing. There is something truly fascinating about urban decay. It is amazing how fast it happens, too! Keep up the great work so that we can share these intriguing sites with you without risk of arrest! (-:
