I really like this picture.
the paint lookes almost puffy in some places like the walls became bloated at one point and stretched and cracked it and then they fell back to their original size and the paint stayed at that size
people always wanna put more of a story into these places than what's there... they wanna make things worse than they were.
there wouldn't be blood dripping from the TOPS of all of the walls unless it somehow seeped in from a floor above, in which case, there'd hafta be a lot of blood in the above room... enough to saturate the walls and floors.
think logically, people and stop trying to make this stuff seem so sinister. more than likely if theres red spatters or liquid, it's rust.
XD when taking this picture, Mr Motts can't have NOT seen that this was a gingerbread house.
I think he was enjoying reading your "omgz a monstar" comments too much!
I live right near Pennhurst and have for 37 years. I remember when it was in full operation and the grounds were as beautiful as Valley Forge (and I am not kidding). It makes me sick to see the spray paint, the vandalism and especially the evidence of setting fires. If you can't go into a place and enjoy just looking around and/or taking pictures without leaving a mark, destroying things, trying to burn the place down or taking something, do us all a favor and stay home. You have all but ruined it for people like me and the others who abide by the rules of respect and now make it nearly impossible to walk around the grounds and buidings by bringing on increased security and the re-closing of the gates. I used to be able to drive through there as an alternate route to town, but not anymore. Thanks alot. By the way, as far as this picture is concerned, who put this sign up, anyway? At least learn how to spell the word resuscitator before pointing out where it is.
as a chiled, my sister-in-law was at Willowbrook after her parents were pushed into institutionalizing her by family doctors who said it would help her condition. she was later sent home to die but under the loving care and protection of her family she is 49 years old. my mother-in-law was instrumental in getting Bobby Kennedy and Geraldo involved after her suspicions were confirmed during regular visits to the facility.
We were there two nights ago 11/23/06 (thanksgiving). I love Pennhurst. I've been inside a couple of times, examining more and more of the facility each time I go. I am obsessed with the story that lies behind Pennhurst. I spend hours researching the story, but can you blame me? This is such a fascinating (but disgusting) story of what happened to these patients. However, when we were there on Thanksgiving we were absolutely scared out of our minds. We went in the administration building (pictured above) and did our thing but on the way out we realized there was a truck outside in the driveway, a truck that hadn't been there when we entered. We heard footsteps and we tried to escape. It seemed like everywhere we went those footsteps were right behind us. We finally made it out and we went to the road and a police car drove down the road. Thankfully we all made it out safely and un caught, but I must warn those that enter.. be careful, be smart, and be safe. Be kind to Pennhurst. Let others experience it without the damage of others. If it keeps getting damaged then they are more likely to tear it down sooner than later and no one that loves Pennhurst and it's history wants that to happen.
took me awhile to get back to this sight but thought i would mention that when my boss was still in college she worked as a gym teacher at pennhurst because her dad was the staff physician, well long story short she needed volleyballs one time and was told to order them suffice to say she worded the order forn wrong and instead of getting a case of 12 balls wound up with 120 cases of 12 balls somewhere in these tunnels is a storage room with all those balls so she says lol thought this was worth a mention
it reminds me of how black our basement was and why I was so scared of it as a kid.
