That's interesting, I just bought and read The State Boy's Rebellion two weeks ago. Pretty wild stuff, especially how many "normal-grade" kids were dropped off at these state schools. With no advanced education or social training skills at these overcrowded and underfunded institutions, there was very little hope of leaving.

I love books, seeing them like this kills me.

Looks like an attachment for a vacuum cleaner.

The tunnels connected most of the buildings on campus so one could travel around without being in the weather. The tops of the tunnels stuck out of the ground a bit, providing outdoor walkways. Pennhurst wasn't a huge sprawling complex, so they weren't that long.

I recall it being pretty trashed by this last visit.

I know the administration building was cleaned up to be used for the attraction, but I'm not sure if any other buildings are presently used.

The fog and fall colors add such a peaceful filter over everything.
