Yup; this photography can only be done in the daytime as you need the infrared spectrum of the sunlight to reflect off the surfaces. The light is much weaker than the visible spectrum, so the exposure times are long (10-30 seconds)... in fact, sometimes it's difficult to capture infrared images on cloudy days or shady conditions.
