Unfortunately, structure fires in abandoned & derelict buildings are fought from the exterior (surround and drown) due to the dangers to firefighters. Most of these buildings are cluttered nightmares with missing or weak floors & stairs, and unstable roofs & ceilings. Add a moderate fire & smoke load and the firefighter is blind and the structure will fail much earlier than a building that's in use & maintained. Sadly, the best we can do is protect surrounding exposures and let a grand old lady go.
