Isn't it some sort of crime to erase historical evidance? Some guy already bought some 70 odd acres of land costing him $18 mill. for his apartment idea. I keep popping up because I am doing a report on some of the things that went on and why it was closed so suddenly. This is the closest I've gotten to finding any info.

A skeletal hand? Really? Yuck, I had to "assemble" one for Anatomy class. You positive it was a hand? It's not I don't believe you but that just seems...wow. What else was around the area?

I know it may seem a bit sick but I am interested in knowing what kinds of things REALLY happened behind those walls. One of my brothers and their friend went there and found part of a skeletal hand down in one of the tunnles. Did you find any interesting stories in that file room?

I was a nursing student and did my psych. rotation at DSH. After the culture shock and lots of tears( I was only 19 years old), it wasn't so bad. However, A ward was absolutely not for students. We just visited to observe. It was for the female violent patients as well as alot of elderly who probably had Alzheimers. The older women walked around mostly naked-following each other in endless circles ,chanting and incontinent as they walked. Then there was Mary--250 lbs of solid muscle-six feet and a violet streak that was terrifying. She had hacked her sister to death with an axe. It was quite a place !

great pics, i use to work down the hill at hogan for 5 years and was all fascinated with the old hospital
This picture epitomizes the fascination that I have with old, abandoned buildings in general. The once used structure, now abandoned and lonely still resonates with the inhabitants from history. The viewer becomes a voyeur into the past, but the duality is they stand in the present.
Beautifly shot. Brought back memories. Used to drive up and look around, with my boyfriend at the time-now my husband, especially to see the fall foliage. You can't beat the view.

Looks like a giant jack-o-lantern looming out of the gloom at the end of the corridor!

I agree, Twug. I think the answer is directly related to the horsepower between their ears: have you ever noticed that NOT ONE OF THEM can ever spell worth a damn???

I just wanted to know if there was anything going on up there for Mental Health Awareness Week this year? I snuck in and got a peak at the outside of this place about a week back and cannot get it out of my head! I think I need to go back again so I can get on with life...
