Yeah, you gotta have a sense of humor about it, considering the situation. Its either laugh or go crazy. Think of everything thayt went on there, think if it was 50 years ago, YOUd be in there. This is your only way of sticking it to the man, showing them Im alive and youre not. Or not, hell idk. I love the pictures though, you could photograph a toilet in there and it would look good to me.
who in their right mind would want to live here lol no wonder it burnt down. If I was the uneasy spirit of a former patient and a bunch of Yuppies came in and trashed my room, I wouldnt be too pleased either.
No one cares about people in asylums. I live in Central Europe and my grandmother has been locked up twice for attempted suicide. I was only allowed to visit once, but it was awful. You get people who are really ill (like they "go" in their underwear and so) and people who are violent and people who suffer from severe depression all in one room, the psychs bring alcohol to the alcoholics' ward and when they bring new patiens, they have lie in the hall in institutional robes (here it means all back naked and sometimes private parts too). I cannot understand why that is happening. I mean, yes, they are "crazy" but they are human too and they deserve to be treated like human beings.
BTW the photos are beautiful.
They could commit you for any number of things back in the day. The line between sanity and madness wasn't very distinct. You can really imagine yourself there pretty easily.. Oh, and VanBuren if you ever get that book written post the name, Id love to read it. These abandoned asylums fascinate me to no end.
Motts, you are the master of light and shadow. Always wish I could've gone up and seen it myself, but your pics do it justice; heavy on the atmosphere.
It does look eerie back here...I remember the strange silence of this massive structure, the vacant windows staring out like a lost soul. One can feel the saddness of its former occupants.
Not my cup of tea that's for sure. I suppose there was nothing else of interest to photograph in that room except that stupid dummy. Crap like that doesn't usually bother me but I do think the prank went way too far.
