Those spirals are at the bottom of all the banisters inside the hospital as well....there is quite a bit of continuity throughout this place. Very well planned down to the little details....except for the platforms in the bathroom... ;-)

The delicate scroll work at the bottom of the banister seems to offset the rigid geometric lines of the door and the other right angles in this picture...quite the oxymoron in this shot!
