This place has a roman flair which I find ironic given Germany's history with Rome. And it becomes further ironic given the idea behind the structure - uniting past Germanic ideologies with the present ones. Germanic tribes were rather rag-tag in their construction of buildings, etc. preferring to use wood for constructions and notorious for warring amongst themselves. I wonder what history class is like in German schools?

I made a comment under the next picture regarding runes. This one shows better what I was referring to -- the three paths up the stairs look like a rune.

Looks like a gun turret to me.

It looks like a rune. There are several Germanic runes that are in the "pitchfork" style.

maybe we DO need places like this... to COMBAT that which spews from our TV's. Despite what this place was used for, i appreciate its design purpose... to get its people to return to to its roots- both as a people and as a species.

the design of this place is doing its job- it definitely conjures images in my mind of ancient warlords and public executions, and of spirits stronger than I could ever hope to be.

I can't get over how beautiful these places are! I wish I had the ability to go out and explore abandoned buildings myself.

very serene looking and fascinating piece of history,if you are ignorant enough to ignore history and live only for the present you might not have a future.

I quote from the Bible because these pictures say something to me. I myself am not a very elloquent speaker so I use the words of others to express what I feel when I see these pics. And the nice thing about these comments is that if you don't like them, you don't have to read them. There are many comments I have skipped for whatever reason. Enjoy the pictures, Mr. Motts is such a skilled photographer, I spend more time on the pics than I do on the comments.

Truly a great picture and a really interesting album, does anyone else notice that round piece of rock in the right hand corner of the picture looks like it is hinged and might open up like a lid. It probably is just be way the rock is photographed but still strange looking
