The two holes - how scary they are - to see someones eyes looking through those holes. It is worse than a little window, methinks.

It is perfect, the spiral stair case. And you picture is perfect. Center. Focus.

While it would have been a fire hazard, I agree with the idea that moving a large group in a single file may have been one of the reasons for this style.

I think it's just shadow, but it almost looks like a smoke stain over the little check door.

All the beautiful details in these buildings are a lost art in today's world of glass, concrete, and steel.

The glass above the door is interesting. I can't tell if it's colored or stained by mold or something else.

I enjoy reading the details that others see in these pictures.

I think the whole building needs to be saved.

That organ might be worth some money to someone.

These fences look like they're from when it was a jail.

Thanks so much for posting these beautiful pics. I have often admired these buildings from the outside and it is so wonderful to be able to see the design details on the inside, both here at Western State and DeJarnette.

With the safety fence on the side of the steps, to prevent a patient or inmate from harming themselves or others, you would think the same thing would be on the window as well. Even more so, due to the fact it can bo opened.

The campus was officially closed in 2003, but certain areas have probably not been used since the 1970s.

It looked like it to me, but I'm no expert.
