Tony C. I think you are the one who needs to do the research. I am a daughter of a nurse who use to work here, and residents where beaten and raped and murdered. If it wasnt for Geraldo Rivera busting in on them and catching all them running around naked the place would still be open till this day.Its a sick place and they did some sick stuff to these people. Now you can joke about the picture's all you want but dont joke about what happen to them. Thats just down rite mean!

My dad worked in one of the LV buildings, about 25 years ago, and he has some stories to tell.

Those patients were NOT treated well...

My last name is Letchworth and I happened upon this site looking for ancestors. I would love to learn more. Where can I get info?

Do you mean the laboratory? It is a place where scientists research causes of death, diseases, and anything else that can be examined post-mortem to further our knowledge of health and mental health. Quite standard actually.

I'd like to know where you are getting your facts, they seem a bit off and you might want to make sure they are correct before filming a documentary...
GWEN - Send me an email when you can. I have access to a ton of records on former residents, as well as being in communication with them. Don't know if I can help, but could definitely try.
They were underfunded, hence had a staff of lesser qualifications. More that 10% of direct care workers had criminal records. Check the archives. Its a known fact. And as far as the rapes, how can you explain the pregnancies of the mentally retarded women that were segregated from men, other than staff. And the autopsy records of pregnant patients?
By the way, this pic isnt where the bodies were stored before burial, it was where they were stored before they were experimented on. Its located in a hallway just outside the "expirement" room which contains tables and drains.
For all those interested in a type of study, feel free to contact me. I have been touring this place for about 3 months now. I've been getting a lot of pics. The creepiest thing is that I am touring it with two very mildly retarded people that were both residents of letchworth. The stories that they have will blow your mind. Im thinking of a type of film or documentary to produce that can be used for current mental health workers or sold to benefit such agencies. If anyone would be interested in helping, please contact me, I can use as much information as possible. Thanks.

MYSTERY - NEED SOME HELP

HI...

I have a question for "Richard". My uncle, whom my cousins and I know very little about, and who's life has pretty much been kept a secret by our Aunts, was at this hospital. Richard, you mentioned that your mother worked there. Would she know how I could find records of my uncle? His name was William Francis Morris, Jr. We don't know when he died, but he would have probably have been older when your mother was there. I believe he entered Lechtworth back in the 1930s. I believe he probably died there too, but I'm not sure.

read the book "HIV, a Journey to the Source of AIDS". this book references Letchworth Village as one of the first sites for live polio vaccine trials in the US. the lab could have received funding from other sources (like the researcher and manufacturer) in exchange for using their residents as test subjects.

PS: This pictoral history is FASCINATING! Thank you!

There is SO much glass in the lab, a couple stupid friends of mine wore sandals and got nasty cuts.
having sex there is the most disgusting thing i have ever heard of.

I'm not sure if anyone knows what building it is, but it seemed like an office of some sort. anyways, hanging from some of the beams on the ceiling, there were these beautiful delicate mobiles. some of panda bears, flowers, paper ships[the most amazing] and quite a few of them were hot air ballons.
in addition it looked like there was some sort of clinic there as well, we found external male catheters [they look like a condom, with a short plastic tube at the end] on a bloody towel. sickening.
