I am surprised that there are people who do not know of or understand some of the autrocities that occurred in many if not all institutions. The horrors of places like Letchworth and Willowbrook are well documented. Rape is very common among individuals with developmental disabilities - approximately 80% of women and 25% of men have been sexually assaulted. I believe 79% of those who have been sexually assaulted have been victims more than once.
Hi. I am a social worker who works in the field of developmental disabilities. I am not too far from Letchworth and I also know some people who are familiar with Letchworth just prior to its closing. Drop an email if you are interested.

yeah, my mother used to work there. the experiments that they would do were called "labodmies" [hope i spelled that right]. the doctors would cut off the top of the head and take out certian parts of the brain to see if cured the person, if not just to see what happened. the patients were often starved and beaten as well. my mother worked in "x" building and she told me they would keep the patients in cages.
