Why the worst bit Richard?

I love this shot! It amazes me to think that there are buildings like this, just left to rot, when we have so many homeless.

I wonder? how you find these hospitals??
I think this may be the blind unit where patients did have their own rooms
Can't believe this.
This is taken from ward 14 where I worked 1978 - 81 looking down to the 11s block I think.
thanks for these photos - so sad to see the ruins.
I worked here nearly 30 years ago . Had to take patients to a dance here every week - foxtrot, quick step etc - It was the worst part of the job for me I hated it. There was also films shown here as well which wqas great - getting paid to watch films,
Just found this site - can' believe it - I worked here nearly thirty years ago . This was on the blind unit and was to stop patients bumping in to the pole. There were also strings across to other poles to help them move about the ward.
Hi Motts,
It's funny you should say that. In the 1980s there was a big asylum in New Jersey called EMS which wasn't well guarded. Kids used to walk in there and get lost all the time. I found a forum about the place once and checked in as a guest reading all the comments. Some people said they were lost for a good half hour in there. Although that was a HUGE place. It was toren down in 1993. :-(

Here's the best known link although I'm not sure if it's the same forum:

www.nomorejello.net

Seriously look at the size of the place, I could believe a half hour of wandering lost easily!
