Gotta say Motts- Excellent photos, but thanks for respecting where you were. It's easy for us to say we'd like a peek inside, but as others have pointed out, these are the earthly remains of human beings, not props in a Vincent Price flick. To have done otherwise without the permission of the families would have been desicration. There is a fine line between art and garbage, and there are plenty of places on the internet for the latter, not enough of the former. OK, OK, I'm putting the soapbox away!
I want that empty space for myself. Just think of lying there for ages and the sun shining in during the day, and the moonlight on those lovely full moon nights painting everything a pale blue. ummmmm sexy place!!
Another thing to consider is that while embalming and airtight seals may not have been around when these souls were laid to rest, they did use other types of incense and ointments to...combat the smell. Also, I doubt very seriously that many people would be re-entering a crypt any time soon after someone was interred. I'm sure there was some part of their culture or lore that forbade it.
I look at this photo, and I feel...loneliness. A beautiful casket, but at the same time a person awaiting eternity. A train station to the hereafter, with one lonely soul on the bench listening for the train's approaching whistle.
Phenomenal...........I`ve always wanted to see inside a crypt.....in a respectful way.......I think that coffin may be lead....I`ve heard of them but never seen one
Navi and Long Island Irish, the coffin liner in this day and age is metal, used for vault burials, and when transporting a casketed body or putting someone with an infectious disease in the ground. The concrete liner would be the grave liner itself into which the coffin is lowered. For a coffin of this age, maybe the liner was another simple wooden box, or could have been metal sheeting.
hey nevermore are you really going to get a coffin like that? because if you do i would like the website because i want a coffin like that also and i want it in a cript like the one above so people have the temptation of opening it. :0)
