you can't see through these windows...
that's rather depressing. :(

I can imagine a severely underfunded and understaffed institution leaving these things on the wall, or not bothering to repair it if the building was being shuttered. I'm not sure who else would take the time to carve stuff into a wall in a pitch black room...

Do you seriously think a hospital would allow patients to spend hours carving things into a door and then just leave it there? If it were a small amount of writing on a wall, I could see it being missed by staff and maintenance crews. But this is rather significant grafitti that wouldn't go unnoticed.

Doubtful that if this had been carved by an actual patient, it would have been allowed to remain on the wall. Maintenance staff would have been immediately asked to paint/plaster over it.

Rekrats, you and I think on the same wave length. .

The bay windows are beautiful. Great details in the brickwork. Money (or lack of it) drives these decisions of demolition. The cost of refurbishing these grand old buildings up to code would be mind boggling. Pluming, electrical, asbestos removal, new windows, insulation, the list goes on and on.

This would scare the s**t out of me. The thought of dropping through a rotten floor into the abyss is my worse nightmare. I salute your bravery Mr Motts.

Cold, stark, and lifeless. Think of all the patients & staff who looked out those windows over the years.

Ooo, this room looks like it's not long for this world. The floor & ceiling are pretty unstable. This state of advanced decay has been beautifully captured by Motts.

Had a foot go through the floor up to the thigh; pulled it out and there was a good thirty feet of nothing underneath except pointy metal. It was very scary.
