747 Comments for Foster State Hospital

I keep waiting for creepy twin girls to suddenly materialize at the end of the hall and ask if I want to play. :'p

Awesome shot! The contrast of this hall compared to the disarray of some of the previous shots is so striking! It's almost like a quick going-through with a broom would clean this hall right up.

that would make a neat background!
It almost looks as if it were something with a single wheel...being wheeled down the hallway. I don't know of anything with just ONE wheel that would be found in a hospital. I mean a unicycle has one wheel, but what would THAT be doing here???
Hey Autoguy! There you are! Kinda missed you there for a moment. :)

Yay! My comedic rival is here!

I don't know if that is a drag mark...or something else. It almost looks too neat to be something dragged.

Well said. I agree that there is both a mysterious AND beautiful aspect of abandoned buildings. Something about decay, and death...but also of seeing a building that was so grand at one time and seeing that beauty within it still.

I won't prattle on...I am too tired to sit here for long tonight. :)

I've been on this site for 3 months straight going through every set from start to finish, it's really refreshing to see new stuff posted.

Some of these images I can easily visualize as an oil painting. Such vivid colors and contrast.

Yes, the heads are disproportionate to their bodies. Baby/toddler heads are much bigger in comparison to the rest of their bodies than adult's are, that's why they look so bizare, like miniature adults. We studied this in my drawing class when I was in college.

Hi Autoguy! So very nice to read what the REAL story was behind these hairdryers! I knew you would know and educate us accordingly...lol. :)

(MamaToFiveInPA) Thanks and maybe it was "The Persistence of Memory" on the left and "Metamorphosis of Narcissus" on the right. I love Dial’s work as well and i think that is what i love about this website. Dali had an obsession with life and death and its symbolism was always in his work. There is the same symbolism in looking at an abandoned decaying building. It brings up that same foreboding feeling of death i.e that is why most people find old abandoned building so creepy. But there is a grate unexploited and hiding beauty there as well. That few people can see on the surface and even fewer can bring it out. That is where a good artist comes in to exposes that beauty so it can be enjoyed. I hope i don’t embarrass Mr Motts to much with flattery but i would say he has this ability as well.

Thanks Motts, that filled in some time in what is currently a boring, wet Saturday night.
