This is an amazing picture...those who are complaining don't know what they're talking about.
This is the day room where we wandered around all day
Ok lets get real - This was only one of many buildings therefore it in itself did not house 8000 pts. Just under a 1000 is what the current Shapiro Developmental Center in Kankakee houses in even less buildings that have been renovated to now have bedrooms. What you are looking at was one of the dormatory wings and these buildings were easily renovated to have bedrooms in them now that are quite spacious. Beds were lined up on the wings for the patients to sleep and then in the center of the H shape was the "Day Room."

Yes, it's an evil conspiracy.

Actually, the reason is because most of the campus WAS demolished or renovated in 2002 - when I visited in 2005, there was only a single abandoned building left. The dates are general - it would be impossible to nail down a particular year if the site was being demolished over a long period of time, which they usually are.

as anyone else noticed that opacity claims that this place was renovated or destoryed in 2002...and that opacity calims to have takent the pictures in 2005...

Almost reminds me of someone falling off a roof. Haha sorry to be morbid.. it's just so beautiful and has a symbol in itself.

I don´t think that this is vandalizing. Not only because it has a strong meaning behind it (at least the Gennie project), but also because it is easy removeable, as Kirsten said. I am definitely not for destroying the charme of old buildings with graffiti, and I especially do hate tagging - it is not only ugly and meaningless, and writing his own name in every room rather reminds me of a dof peeing at every corner he sees. But this is different: It´s art, not damaging old buildings.

so i take it that gennie didn't write on the walls. The stary is facinating.
Can you please make this a wallpaper Motts?

those tubs were actually used as a type of treatment for mental illnesses a patient would be placed in a really cold tub and then in a really hot tub to shock the senses
