MY GRANDPARENTS AND MY OTHER GRANDMA WORKED HERE FROM1930 TILL 1970. THEY WERE CARING PEOPLE AND STAYED DURING THE TYPHOID EPEDEMIC TO CARE FOR PATIENTS EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD CHILDREN AT HOME WHO NEEDED THEM. I KNOW THAT CARE DURING THOSE YEARS MAY HAVE BEEN CRUDE AT BEST BUT THEY GAVE THE BEST C ARE THEY COULD WITH WHAT THEY HAD. THANK YOU FOR THE PHOTOS THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER GAVE ME A GLIMPSE INTO THE WORLD THEY WORKED IN. I DON'T REMEMBER WHICH COTTAGE THEY WORKED IN. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTATION FOR THOSE OF US WHO CAME LATER.

Seriously; this is ART. wonder if it's a real story or a made up one-- but never mind, it's just beautiful.

Imagine how cool it would be if they took pictures inside the tunnels. Now THAT would be creepy as hell.

I live in manteno and my best friend lives in the area of the state hospital now there is only a couple buildings remaining must were destoryed and every time i go and visit my friend that lives in the area that i live also super close too,we go and walk and see the wards and every bath tub was destored and there is pools in the back area thats fenced off thats hard to get to but u can get there is u know the way but anyways there is old beds back there and toliets wheel chairs shoes books its creep cause if u want to get to the other side u have to walk arcoss a bridge that creep the crap out of u cause if fall in to the water there is no way of getting u out and who knows what is in that water that has been sitting there for years i wasnt born when the hospital was open still but my grandma worked there as a nurse and she said she hated that place to no end she said that she was threated everyday and she was attacked often back then most of the pateints were crazy and the often gave them to much medciene .........
Willy, where are you getting your facts from--where's the proof of all this stuff you're claiming. As was stated previously, a human body would not last long in an "ice bath" which is not just cold water but is water that is colder than what the human body could tolerate. About the tubs, we know they are hydrotherapy tubs because it's been said several times already. Hydro shock therapy is absolutely not the same as an electric chair LOL--use of the latter might be considered permanent and nowhere near being theraputic. Also please learn to spell LOL

Well, this sorta takes the fun out of it. I had seen this before on abandoned but not forgotten, and I thought a rogue patient had accomplished this before the place closed in 1985.

I showed the ABNF photos (mentions nothing about the Gennie projects) to my wife, a psych major, and she FREAKED!

On the other hand, it does make a lot more sense that it wasn't a patient who had done this, as after years of decay it wouldn't appear so bold and clean.

i went to this place in about 1993. The place was crazy, and there was about 4 buildings, maybe 5 still up then. one of the places seemed like it was for kids. it had a gymnasium (with really warped floors) and a tall ceiling. on the wall was a weird book case that went all the way to the ceiling.

Im not going to lie, we were dumb teens then making a mess and playing around. I had a VERY eerie time there.

there was also a building that was in the round, had a court yard in the middle, and this building seemed to have alot of doctors tables, and rusted out halogen lights laying around.

There were also tunnels, that were meant for utilities, that connected a few of the buildings..but required too much hunch over and stuff to really explore. i remember a few of these rooms for sure. great pics

This is amazing.
why would you want it to come off? had this not been there when i went, i never would have known who this girl was. now i have a huge attachment to this place. and a deep sympathy for anyone who has had to go through what she did. i think the artist, kristyn vinikour is bad ass for havin the balls to do this. hell yea girl.

so does anyone know where you would be able to get a copy of the actual patient file? what all the walls said? when i went i didnt shoot all four walls.

anyway. bomb. peace
