I would love to bring my Mesa triple rec in there with my band and play Madhouse by Anthrax! It'd be so awesome! 8-)
HUH????
My parents, both physicians studied here for their psychiatric rotation in medical school in the late 1920's. They often spoke of this hospital, but I had never seen photos of what they described during their period there. It is a shame that such a beautiful group of buildings has gone to decay, when there was such fascinating information re: the positive/ negative developments in the history of psychiatric care that took place there. It was exciting to see what is left of the labs and classrooms, however. What an architectural, financial, and human disaster this group of buildings represents! Would that it could have been rescued and put to good, humane use for education of medical personnel and care of patients!

There was also a large recreation building south of the campus, but it was torn down back in the 70s. There was also a building for working patients, as well as a group of cottages for children. It's almost impossible to find pictures of these buildings, but Goddog has some great ones on his site: The Story of Byberry.

I love looking at the old Byberry blueprints. Behind the stage there was a corridor leading back to some changing rooms and the chaplain's office.

I love this site but I wish you guys would quit flappin your mouth about shit you have no idea about. Its not a medical grade gas bottle for one. They prob used this with a torch to cut scrap. The bottle says civil defense on it because gas companies reuse and trade bottles and civil defense has something to do with whoever made this bottle. The truth is this bottle could have been made in the 30s for all we know, and could have been refilled yesterday. Look I hate to be like this, but quit saying shit all "matter of fact" if you really have no clue what your talking about(and I'm not ragging the people who say "maybe its a...") cause you sound like children. Really. Its every pic with you people.

Is there anyone here who worked there in the early 50's? I looking for a particular boy. Possibly born in 51 or 52. He may have been placed there as a baby and taken out when he was 2 1/2 or 3. Dark blond hair and blue eyes. It could have been that he was slow minded. He had a scar on the hairline of his forehead. Surgical. Desperately seeking information on him. His name could have been Jonathan. If you know of this child, please respond! Thanks!
