That is for a baby or small child. The arm rests are that high to keep a baby from falling over the side. But the one I had in 1973 was newer than this one.
My 13 year old daughter is mentally retarded. I hope that she would never have to end up in an institution. But the realitiy is that if something ever happened to me, that one day she might have to go and there would be nothing that I could do about it. Since my mother is dying of brain cancer and her father is a moron. It might be her only place to go. Fortunately in Oklahoma they have a program called ddsd and they help to keep her in my home and look out for her best intrests.
WTF folks? The place is abandoned ,according to Radical Ed, has been for a decade or more. This is not the Sistine Chapel people. It is an abandoned building descending into a ruin. Why not tag if it suits your fancy? It is not Tenochtitlan or the Step Pyramid in Seqqarah. It is not a holy place. Good grief people if they are tagging in there maybe they'll leave some apartment buildings with people in it alone. Perspective people, perspective. I worked at Danvers State Hospital. It is/was tagged too. BFD. The place was a dump when it closed. The state ignored it for over 20 years prior to it's closure. It provided, like PSH, illicit jollies for apparently hundreds of people over the years. They left their marks No big deal. Here endeth my rant.
Reminds me of the "flew tubes" in an old steam railroad engine.. Hot gases go through them to produce more heat in the water .... which turns into steam....
I've worked at several of these places and all of them had tunnels. They were used by maintainence people . There was direct access to a tunnel in K Building at Belchertown State School; I went in it a few times and it was full of piles of pipes. I heard that staff sometimes used the tunnels to travel to other buildings in bad weather, back in the "old days", but the tunnels were off-limits to staff (and certainly to clients) during my years at these places. And it is extremely unlikely anyone "never saw the light of day"- all the buildings had windows, some had fenced-in yards, lots of clients were able to walk the grounds with staff or alone, people had to go to school or workshops or activities or appointments, etc. Some of what I read on this site seem to be urban legends...
They aren't supposed to and never were supposed to leave this information unsecured. Patient information has always been supposed to be confidential, even before HIPAA - HIPAA just put some teeth into the concept. However, given that we have now seen this at multiple sites I am saddened by it.
My best guess has to do with timing and ignorance. As a psych I am supposed to keep all records for anyone I have seen in therapy for at least 5 to 7 years (the length depends on the state psych laws). I have moved 5 times in the past 7 years and each time I have moved I have made my poor spousal unit pick up and move multiple (15+) metal file cabinets full of therapy records. Luckily last year was my time limit expiration for maintaining records and I was able to shred and/or burn 15 filing cabinets worth of records. I think that's why I get so irritable when I see that other people don't follow the same guidelines.
I am guessing that the information was kept for a number of years per state statutes, and then as the years dragged by the information was forgotten as new people came in and took over the state record systems and somehow lost the fact that all this was still sitting somewhere.
Well, that's me being kind. I know that if MY name was in any of those records (either as therapist or as client) I would be a little peevish about now.
