it's (the unit) is call a cusipdor. Looks like a old "ritter" or maybe "A-DEC" unit. ran on 60psig med-air and 45psig water. ya see the lens in the light it should be sort-yellow/orange in color. some were blue in any case the coating is "rare earth" minerals and has a cash value. look for them on ebay.

Just plugging the drain holes would be enough to prvent gas from coming back up the pipe. What's strange is that they chose to fill the entire fixture with plaster.

I knew a guy when I was a kid who would get old used TVs wherever he could find them. He was a whiz with electronics and he would fix the TVs. Then he would watch TV with a loaded pistol and when something he didn't like came on TV he would shoot the screen.

Maybe this is where he ended up.

Yes, the painting is crude, but I bet whoever painted it felt s/he was adding something cheerful to a room that was perhaps plain. I'm sure the colors were brighter before years of abandonment dulled them. If the walls weren't chipping away and if the floors were swept and there was real light in the room it may have been a fun room for the kids to hang out in. And who knows, there may have been toys around back then. I'll bet the "artist" was trying to do a good thing at the time, attempting to cheer the place up.
