Still, I wonder whether that sort of "renovation" may have left the stuff beneath protected from the elements, vandals, etc. Maybe some of it could be retrieved if repairs ever get underway?

I wonder whethe anything of the old ceiling could survive beyond the dropped ceiling... or would that sort of construction neccesitate anihilating all of the older decorations before putting in the newer ceiling?

I think it's just a vent, Mechabull. The dark gap under the window I believe to be just shadows from the radiator thingie sticking out under the window...but I could be wrong!
