ummm. "lead glass" is a term used to describe the lead between the pieces, as in stained glass, or those old diamond shaped, pieced together windows on Tudor style houses. Leaded glass does NOT have the capabilities of LEAD. Jeeze. This glass would not shelter you from anything that lead would. OMG
I wanted to know a little more about the Central Islip location as I work over in CI on carlton ave i the new shopping center. we have seen ghosts and have had strange things happen such as some man saying shhhhh! a girly following us in a red sweater and one girl felt someone pull her hair. Where exactly was the building for CI ? how else can I find out info.
Lynne,
During prohibition, you could get an "RX' to legally purchase alcohol from your "doctor", usually for Whiskey. You can also find many real, old prescrptions, handwritten, with patients name and diagnosis on Ebay. Just search "prohibition". HIPPA, anyone? I imagine some of those people whose names they post and sell on those old rx's could still be around....
Do an Ebay search on "Quack medecine" or something similar, there are alot of antique "quack" medical items for sale, such as "voilet Ray" machines..search that too), and HOME elctro shock devices. They are usually wooden boxes, very plain, with terminals, a sponge and room for an old dry cell battery... for instance:
Motts, you enthrall me with your artistry! What's the latest update on your book? Gift-giving season approaches once again, and I'm getting anxious to send some green your way!
Any chance you'll be coming to the Left Coast? We have our share of old sites...mostly still in use (**shudder**)!
Yeah, who says they were doing coke? Trash like this makes me think of a meth lab, but it's a mini bar rum bottle, and food dye tops if you look. I see teenagers doing dumb crap..... not drugs old or new. This site is my "official" favourite, but it does seem to make people's imaginations run wild. maybe that's part of the "fun" of looking?
Hey Tammy B... umm..I 'm really hoping that you are being sarcastic here but just in case you ARE clueless...the hole in the middle is the faucet..where the water comes out....it was built right into the sink
There is a resturant which has a safe like this here in Golden, CO. I think it was an old bank bldg. Needless to say they built around it; you cant possibly move these things, they weigh tons, but anyway, they let people take cjances at trying to open it ans whoever does supposedly can keep what's inside! I doublt if someone found a wealth of historical info, old money, or whatever that promise would all chnage.....still, that's what they say. Of course it hasn't been opened since the turn of the century or earlier, but if anything IS inside I think it would be amazingly intresting no matter how "mundane". And, yes, I am sure they could "bust" it open, but the point of it still being there after all these years is it's intricate beauty - no one in their right mind would damage it, or if they did, I would call it a real crime, wether you "owned" the place or not.
