Maybe X's tag areas that have had the fixtures and fittings removed. I have seen this in old prisons here in Australia. When they remove the furniture and handles and copper piping (which is expensive) they tag it as stripped.

Aaah, when there's life in a building, it's just another nursing home full of elderly folk. After they've gone, the myths and legends and gossip starts. When I clean out the drawers at work I find pics like this of our dearly departed. We all do a fond "hey, remember this guy...?" and then we stash the pics somewhere else. It seems like bad karma to throw them out. Probably fell on the floor when they were moving the furniture out.

I have just seen the DVD here in Australia (Session 9), a friend bought it for me for Xmas because I rave about your photography. She got sick of me saying all thru the movie "but Mott's lighting is sooooo much more atmospheric!! " Anyway, suffice to say the psych nurses here in Australia love your work. Bless.

On the subject of stealing...

I can't speak for a place like this, but in the case of places that are owned by the state (such as the hospitals), whether the buildings are abandoned or not, they are still state property. Which means everything inside them is state property. Hell, the "no trespassing" sign I have is state property! Like it or not, all of this is someone else's property and it is, by law, stealing.

I'm sure no one wants a lawsuit on their hands over someone trespassing and getting hurt and I agree that's why they guard these places to begin with. But if stealing is a crime, do you think the cops aren't going to care if you walk out with an armful of state property?

Any crime gives reason for the owners of these places to step up their security. By saying you want a damn orange phone, you're sending a red flag to security that they have more possible trespassers.

If you enlarge the photo, you can see that it's perhaps a poster or a cabinet on the wall. The cross is partially formed by the window mullions.

Nothing good. I think they have her drugged or broke her spirit or something because we called her on Christmas and she didn't even remember who we were. She's had no one to talk to for so long that her mind seems to have shut down. :-(

The curtains and other useful decor were sold to other resorts that remained in operation (ie. the Villa Roma). Ironically, the curtains are gone since the leveling of the main bldg due to the fire in April '06.

we had curtains too in the staff house/bungalow across the street from the main entrance, but it was a blanket held up with thumb tacks to cover our window.
