did many ballrooms have pillars in the center? most ballrooms ive seen have been just very big open spaces. This one looks a little narrow

I look at that chair, and then think about how I'm sitting in my uncomfortable second-hand chair, slumped forward and tilted in funny directions. I think sitting in THAT chair would probably hurt for all the right reasons! :P

Just imagine it with the 'skylight' still working. Most likely it is backlit, but still...

Same here, I can tell this is going to be favorite already. The lobby actually looks in very good shape.
