I guess razor wire was a cheap way to make an old idea more efficient : like a bull with inward- turned horns, you get snagged sideways with little effort.

Not only am I a huge fan of the sites you are shooting, but I really love your eye and the way you shoot various angles. It definitely stands out in this picture.

I am quite jealous of the places you have explored and shot! If there is an equivalent to something like a foot fetish I suppose these types of pictures are it for me. Excellent work.

After reading as much as I could find on Bannerman's castle I had to research Governor's Island as well. Would love to know what the inside of the castle looked like in it's prime. Would love to see lots more photographs! But even in it's present state of decay it is still beautiful.

I found this bit of history fascinating. Was reading Linda Fairstein's book and had to see if this was a real place. Only wish I could find a picture of Frank Bannerman VI. Does anyone know if one exists?

Iam confused, were these patients or mentally ill prisoners? If I had a family member in thier I would be getting that little puppy out real quick.

I am amazed at how many mental hospitals
were active until the late 1900's. I mean were did all these people go? Is that why there are so many homeless now.

Also many skylights were covered up for energy reasons during the 70's. An astoundingly huge number of buildings were butchered to lower heating costs during that period.

The motto on the fireplace is Latin and is the state motto: "Qui Transtulit Sustinate" translated "He who transplants still sustains."
