Man this makes my imagination soar--
what if astronauts found an abandoned fusion reactor site on the moon using technology we had not even concieved of yet
Would it look like this ?
i too want to know if it was occupied. And, the fact that it is rusted doesnt sit well with me either.... i mean if something bad was in there..... and it rusts, and falls apart..... kind of scary!
Part of the hotels problem was that there is / was absolutely NO parking anywhere for the hotel to continue being a hotel. So, the other hotels around the area received more customers, Although the Sterling was once a Grandiose and had a lot of night life, it died off in the 70's when so many other night clubs popped up (with parking). The pic above is a side entrance.
I live not far from the sterling hotel, I dont remember them saying they were knocking the main building down, I believe they are going to re do the inside and open shops on the ground floor. There used to be a restaurant, a Barber shop and a beauty salon, and if i remember correctly, a mens hat store too. It had turned into an apartment building and the sterling management didnt pay their electric bill (or something like that) and all the occupants (mostly elderly) were removed with no notice from that building, it was very sad . they werent even allowed to take their posessions, the city came in and said - Leave! and that was it. they never went back. Anyway, when the city went back in a year or so later, they saw that someone stole the gigantic chandelere from the main lobby, and a lot of the marble from the walls were missing. (sounds like an inside job to me) But, according to the last thing I heard about it, they are building a parking lot behind it and going to reopen the Hotel.
my grandmother worked here for a long time and she told me of locking people in these cages when they acted up and attacked the staff so this is what she was most likely referring to
