Um... aside from the last sarcastic?/dumbass comment.. this seems like it was once a pretty awesome walkway, sunny.. etc. I would hang out here and draw or paint.

ya they are indeed leaf springs they use to come on most car's and trucks up until the 80's until fontwheel drive car's took over the market and then VW came out with independent rear suspension. But i don't know for sure but i don't they have used leaf springs on trains for a good 20 years or so

You must keep in mind that these people had a contagious diseses (TB, smallpox,etc..) Unfortunately for them they were in quarantine and could not leave.
