It's a very old traction bed.

My mother has that exact tub in her house. It's hella old. It's missing one of the feet though, and has been on a brick for over 20 years.

I enjoy the writers use of both capital and lowercase "e"s.

Gah those poor people. They used those to simulate sunlight when people couldn't go outside, it was said to help cure them. Such a horrible thing.
