Ooh, Greenskulker, good one on the Logans Run idea...I recall the movie & the short lived TV show. I guess they both had there moments. I see what your saying though.....but it does also look like a very large spiders web like someone else mentioned before....cool though......LOL

I remember Browns, The Neville, Grossingers of course, the Concord,
Kutchers, Rocking Horse,, I remember we had our own WSBS aka Sunnycroft Broadcasing System ) radio station) that we used the PA System for.
We broadcast from the TV Room up the stairs in the main house.
The two sided fire place in the main house and the juke box.
Oh well, I remember it well.

Hi Erin, ness turned out to be right. Here it is, 4 years later, and a haunted house businessman has purchased Pennhurst and will open a haunted house in the admin. bldg. for Halloween 2010. I saw a preview of it last night on TV and it will be FREKY. Too bad I live in California. :-(

I went to the BSS grounds today just to walk around and explore a little..... did not realize how many buildings were actually here! A lot of feelings ran through me, but I was not creeped out in the least.. I found myself wondering what really went on here, and why. I wanted to chance going in some of the buildings, but decided that it was probably not a good idea..... so I observed from the outside instead.. I plan on making a couple more trips to the grounds, as I feel ther is still much more to see!

Unfortunatly you cannot enter this hospital site anymore, it is guarded 24/7. This is the way how a mental helth hospital USED to look. things have developed greatly since then. But when you have an agressive, violent and abusive patient, do you really think sticking them in a room that resembles a nice cosy hotel room would benefit them. The patients would have only been kept there until they were no longer a danger with full supervision from trained staff. The room is empty because if you have a self harmer or someone intent on causing harm to others, then any object will become a weapon. It is a plain room that was only intented for short term use. If you still think this is sick and lacks dignity then please put yourselves in to my shoes, I regurlarly have patients running towards me, trying to hit me, bite me scratch me and kick me, if not me then to the other patients. It is scary for any person on the receiving end of this, and they are put in seclusion to calm them down and stop them from attacking others and being a danger to themselves. Their mental illnesses causes them to act differently and with lack of insight, in their own mind they would probably be appalled at their actions, it is very sad to see someone deteriate in this manner, but we do the best we can. The seclusion room is no different from sending a disobedient child to the naughty step or corner. Back when this hospital was built, things would have been very shocking, these days we have better procedures for dealing with mental health. When a patient brandishes a knife with the intent to stab, then unfortunatly dignity goes out of the window and you have to protect yourselves, staff and patients.

t, just to let you know, that isn't an orb. It's more than likely a round piece of metal screwed in to the wall to cover up a hole where a faucet of something of the plumbing sort was taken out.

Working in Mental Health you often come across agression and Violence. The patients provide a potential risk to staff or other patients, if they do not respond to verbal communication then they have to be removed from the situation for their safety and the safety of others. You cant just think "aw, they have a mental health problem, let them do what they want because they cant help it." That would be a form of negligence, it wouldn be fair if other patients were injured or worse. These rooms seclude the patient until they are sufficiently calm and will not harm other people. It is for safety only, we are not being cruel or not understanding. If we belive its in their best interests then we do that, but we perform it in a proper and safe manner.

I don't know about back in the day, but currently state hospitals no longer have morgues on the grounds. All people who die are taken off grounds. The tunnels were ALWAYS only used for transporting patients to and from buildings during bad weather (i.e. rain, snow, etc.). In fact, in hospitals that are still running, the tunnels are still used for that exact purpose. As for the beating of people and such, well, you may want to stop watching so many scary movies and actually do some research of your own instead of depending on Hollywood to supply you with all of your facts. ^.^
