Wow i bet that Chute has seen/felt some serious heat. When that Trapdoor opened and blast of heat would shoot up and escape around it i bet it could easily burn a human to death. If you think opening a Oven at 450 degrees is bad then trying a couple thousand degrees!

Those wires weren't Cut. They look like the WireNut that was holding them together has been twisted off. Chances are some person came along and took them thinking they were useful.
