The problem is, in the 1800's a there was a lot to be learned, insted of understanding mental illness medical science was crude and conditions for the paitents were horrible. Think about some one who suffered from a psychosis being brought here. On first sight we see it at a great building , the paitent on first sight : A scary place to be.
