Reading old medicall records can be fascinating. The terminology is very different and the medical treatments are very interesting. I would read some also. As a retired RN I can read things like this with absolutely no interest in the patient name and identifiers. Early on I taught myself to not remember names. I can tell 36+ years of medical tales and not one name. Of course now that I don't work it is not a good skill to have. LOL

People were bussed out of state after Katrina and some people never had the money to go back or are in better situations where they are now and don't want to go back. It is hard to imagine but that is why so many people have left their belongings there to rot. It is so sad really. It makes people sit up and think about where they live now and what could happen to their home (or at least I hope it does).. The government helped more in LA than they have in many other states so they were lucky to get the help that they did from the government.

When they hauled away the fire damaged parts of the Kirkbride building in the 1990s, the gaping holes that led to the other parts of the building were carefully paved with original stone, and it all looked pretty damn good. I mean it didn't look like the typical "abandoned eyesore" that most people despise. I really thought these remnants would be around for a long time... I guess that stone work was all for naught.
