I have worked in state hospitals, still am, for over 25 years. Years ago, they did not have the same diagnosis's that they have now. They did not have the meds they have today either. They used restraint's and other cruel means to handle a difficult patient. My experience is that, years ago, pt's were admitted for some really stupid reasons, for example, a husband could put his wife in an asylum just because he did not want her in the house anymore. And they admitted many many women for those exact reasons. They also would put homeless people, but not necessarily mentally ill, in the asylums too. Now days there are so many patient rights that it is hard to abuse a pt and get away with it. It still does happen tho. The trouble now days is that you really can't put your hands on a pt if they are out of control and dangerous to themselves or others without a good chance of losing your job if you do. It is really a difficult thing because to let a pt thrash about or assault a staff member is more cruel in my book than to give them a good shot of thorazine to put them out. There are way too many assaults against staff and the pt gets no consequences for their behavior. Laws are good and all, but they need to do something with the outcomes after a staff gets assaulted.

b and e -where were u last month when I was there ? i'd be willing to risk something to profit by your xperience 'double entendre' ' and Ratchet good to see ya back again and must admit I read your commentary and didn't blush at all- again again i laffed at your Taco bell remark- my thoughts are the same- I could take the thing my self and am NOT young however am glad to be part of the last days of the old girl and 26 yrs and counting -I was not the only one who stopped by to get a pic - a lovely freak of wood and stone who subtly calls to all of us who fell under the curiosity of a past we were not privileged to partake of

I would love to know whats at the top of those stairs, but ones curiosity can end up you falling in on one of the steps on your way up them

these pictures make me lead to more conclusions on the place and now hoping to manage to get to investigate there

I was at this structure about a month ago and was able to gain access very easily. It however is in horrible shape and very dangerous. Proceed with caution and bring lights and gear. Be safe but do try to see this before it is gone. the rest of the campus is wonderful as well.

Heh, Msgt Mike. Did you google it and see if you can find the manual for the machine? Sometimes you can find old manuals for machines.

For a place that was supposed to have been very expensive at one time, that bed looks like it came from an insane asylum. Maybe those were nice beds at one time tho.
Such a cool place!! Would love to have been a fly on the wall thru out it's history.

How awesome is this pic??? Wow, wish I could have spent some time there in it's hayday. Wonder what it cost to stay there when it was a hotel? And, going to school there too, expensive?? Anyone know??

unbelievable the messages i've read looking at these pics.i'm unbelievably sorry for those that experienced that life. but happy to hear you all have moved on to have lives and families.knowing how to treat n properly raise a family. i live very close to met state and my whole life heard stories about that place. first time i went there i was 12 with my older brothers and there friends. this was before the buildings were borded up, the shit we seen was disgusting nevermind the feeling of someone thee n the shadows when in the underground hallways n the left behind wheelchairs and there was evan viles of what looked liked blood in test tubes from chemistry class, last time i was there was 5 years ago to show ny girlfriend n her friends plus another buddy who experierenced the same shit years earlier. when we got there and got passed the gaurds sneeking through the woods we tried getting in to the building next to the creepy concrete playground , but all windows n doors were boarded up saying no tresspassing do to ezbeztose, we tryed to prybar open the plywood covering the windows n doors but obviously we made to much noise n security wich am pretty sure was stateies we moved n the only building close to try was the addmisions building. windows borded up but front door unlocked. we went in offcourse we were drinking but we hadnt for a good two hours before we got to the med state grounds. etherway we went in. The place was trashed n grapphitti everywhere saying the devil is here n you will die if you go down the stairs,when i move i take my furniture, this building had everything left n thrown everywhere. went down stairs n the smell of mildew was awfull, besides that didnt really have any creepy feelings except for the girls freaking out. then the staties were doing thier rounds saw our flash lights n chased us . me n my girlfriend got sepperated from our friends, i told her to go for the trees n back to the main road to the car . as we ran behind the addmissions building ,i somehowe ran straight off a 30 ft dropp n landed rolling without breaking anything, my girlfriend said it looked like i floated down in slow motion to the patio that was there. we got to the cars n laughed off the staties chaseing us. me makeing the dropp was said but brushed off as bullshit, but ive had dreams of the that spot n how i told my girlfriend to go to the woods and n my dreams its daylight n its a common area for staff but concrete not grass.

which floor is that on? id love to go check it out!
