It's not for a child. They had adults there with serious birth defects that could not sleep in a regular bed and had stunted growth on top of their intellectual disabilities.

I remember this room was always packed. I loved seeing shows here.

Never went into the outdoor pool much, it was ice cold. I stayed mostly in the indoor pool area as a kid. I so miss it.

My mom and dad rented this room as a kid, I recall being in that tub. I have pictures of it somewhere too.

It may not look it, but somebody still owns everything here.

Does anyone remember when they held rock concerts in york hall. 1970's I think. Does anyone have pictures of those concerts. I play here here in 1971 or 72. with my band Stoneblood. I lived in KP from 65 to73.

There getting ready to tear it down.So much money was wasted studying if it was feasable to save this building,if the money was used on the building it would be an asset to the city again,instead officals wasted all the money on stupid things and let the building crumble.

I grew up north of Spfld and my mother grew up in Holyoke so she was familiar with Spfld and area history,etc. Personally I vaguely remember when the "jail for sale" was still a jail. But for the majority of my life the York Street Jail, really was the "jail for sale" and was actually somewhat of a joke for area residents, ya know is anyone gonna actually buy it, and for what. By the time I went off to college the jail for sale still stood but as time progressed I remember coming home via I-91 and being shocked (doing the old double-take) realizing that this long vacant prison was slowly being demolished and suddenly on one trip back to the area it was gone...
I absolutely love your photos, not only of York St. Jail but many others. Excellent work!

Sadly, the Salesian School and Mansion were totally demolished a couple years ago. It is now a small park area. When it was being demolished workers apparently reported some "haunted happenings" experiencing eerie sounds and happenings in and around the buildings.
I'm thrilled to see that the buildings are at least preserved here for others to see and appreciate!! :)
