I, too, really think old places like this should be renovated instead of being razed....But, Lady Chadwicke? When you're looking at a photo of former 'seclusion rooms', what in the world made you think of the word ''enchantment'''? If you'd actually ever witnessed someone getting put into seclusion, I think the word ''nightmare'' might have popped into your mind first! That word or ''upset''' enters my mind. But people do need to see Motts' pictures, partly so we don't return to some of our old ways of doing things.

How nice! This shot makes me want to step intlo the photo with à lawn chair & my MP3 Player, and just chill out.

John, I think it's sad that this is one of the only open corridors at Whittingham! It probably would have done the patients good to get outside more when the weather was fair.

That's sad that several decades ago so often times that would happen. Today wé're supposed to have better oversight of special needs persons, the elderly, and the mentally ill. But, unfortunately, you still occasionally will hear reports of cases of negfect and/or abuse.

Ah, yes! Pink, again! I don't know when tbis place was last painted, but there were studies done, (commissioned by NIMH) back in the 1980s, that the color that is most calming to humans is Pink! That's probably why you've seen it in a lot hospitals since the 80s and maybe even in prisons, as well. I would have thought Blue would be the most calming color to people, but I guess not!.....Hey, Motts! I know there's stairs hiding there somewhere amongst all that rosy pink! 8 D

Looks like Pvt. Herndon was a civil war vet who ended up dying in the asylum at the age of 69.

I wonder what brought him to that sad state? Cerebral syphilis? Early dementia of some kind? I guess we'll never know.

Thanks Carolyn, yes I try to find a decent vantage point but it's often a very quick process. The security dogs at the site definitely made this trip a fast one.
